Chapter 7 THE POST WORLD WAR I PERIOD The period following World War I was one of changes for Tunisia and Zaytuna. During this period Zaytuna had to rely more upon governmental financial support because the war had decreased the funds (habus) Zaytuna had maintained itself on for centuries. At this time Zaytuna graduates were having greater difficulty getting jobs because of their lack of academic and language preparation for jobs in developing Tunisia. This poor job outlook led these Zaytuna students to request more reforms. However these requests were met with little success. In the 1920's Zaytuna had to add an annex to take care of its expanding population. All of these issues and problems are discussed in this chapter.
